Jim Beam has gone has released a Single Barrel expression of its wonderful Bourbon! As you can probably guess from the name, each bottle is drawn from a single barrel - no blending here. Less that 1% of Jim Beam barrels are selected to become Single Barrel releases! Jack Daniel’s is known for being a well-crafted, smooth sippin’ Tennessee Whiskey. You don’t last for over 150 years if you’re not a quality product, after all. We’ve become known for something else along the way too: our iconic black and white label. But what people may not know is that the history of our label wasn’t always so black and white.
Some time before 1904 our bottles were a rather unexpected shade of green with an eye-catching gold trim. And as unusual as that may seem, it’s just one of the many labels in Old No. 7’s past. You have to be patient to make whiskey, and it seems that Jack took his time landing on the tried-and-true black label we know today. This is the first in our series of Legacy Edition Bottles. Each label we release will celebrate the unique, slightly mysterious history of Old No. 7.
Bulleit Bourbon, "Frontier Whiskey" was originally distilled in 1830. Over the years the brand has moved from one company to another and one distillery to another. Since 1997 Bulleit has been a Seagram product and it is made at their Lawrenceburg distillery in Kentucky. Bulleit is produced with a higher proportion of rye than most other Bourbons, creating a drier more complex spirit. The distillery has its own Grain Division, which acquires distiller's grade grains grown to Bulleit's specification. Only limestone-filtered water is used during production which sees the whiskey distilled in small batches then aged for no less than six years in a single-story warehouse (which is said to reduce inconsistencies in the maturation process). In March, 2004 Bulleit Bourbon won the Gold Medal for being in the top of its class at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition - beating more expensive and better known premium bourbons such as Knob Creek, Maker's Mark and Jim Beam Black.

An interesting twist on Johnnie Walker Black Label, Double Black was rolled out for general release in 2011 after a successful launch in travel retail. Double Black adds to the normal Black Label profile by including more Islay whisky and casks that have been heavily charred, giving a more intense flavour with a greater emphasis on smoke while keeping true to the sophisticated Johnnie Walker style.
Black Label boasts superior depth and complexity, with a smokier, fuller flavour than other deluxe blends. Its distinctive character stems from its use of a remarkably diverse range of 12+ year old malts, drawn from over 700 casks. One whisky in particular, Cardhu, was considered so vital that the Walker family bought the distillery in 1893 so that its characteristic silkiness would lie at the heart of the blend.
